Representative Work

  • Successfully represented a multinational professional service firm whose consultancy work and partners were under investigation by the Auditor General, which concluded without the commencement of criminal or civil proceedings.

  • Successfully represented the senior partners in a multinational professional service firm in an investigation examining the professional conduct of the firm and its partners, including in relation to the retention and destruction of records.

  • Extensive experience working cooperatively with teams of counsel, either acting for a corporation or its senior managers and employees, in response to investigations by municipal and provincial police agencies and the RCMP.

  • Providing independent legal advice and witness representation to persons responding to contact from criminal and regulatory investigators.

  • Markson Law is regularly retained by law firms and other lawyers to advise on their legal rights and obligations and in the navigation risk in their response to third party criminal or regulatory investigations regarding their clients or firm dealings.

  • Advising corporations and individuals in the sound navigation of responses to production orders and search warrants, and related investigative inquiries.

  • Retained by a national regulator to provide advice in relation to the conduct of the Board of Directors involved in regulatory dealings during active and related enforcement proceedings.

  • Markson Law has experience dealing with investigators from a wide range of financial, investigative, and governmental agencies, such as the Office of the Auditor General, the RCMP, police agencies across Ontario, the Canada Border Services Agency, the Canada Revenue Agency, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Environment, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

  • Advising corporations, institutions, and professionals victimized by harassment, fraud, or other criminal or civil misconduct in order to secure protection and legal remedies. In appropriate cases, Markson Law assists to facilitate access to preventative or remedial court orders and liaises with law enforcement authorities in ongoing investigations.
